The Hunter Maddex Hall of Fame was established in 1980 to promote the spirit and tradition of Handley Athletics and honor athletes of the past. During 2009, the JAA Board of Directors created the Edwin Barksdale Wing of the Hunter Maddex Hall of Fame to honor outstanding athletes who attended Douglass High School and who would have attended John Handley High School if not for segregation.
